Jacinte Armstrong is a Halifax-based dance artist who has worked with many collaborators locally and across Canada. Receiving her early training at Halifax Dance, she went on to study at Dalhousie University and at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL.
Jacinte is the past Artistic Director of Kinetic Studio, and a co-founder and Artistic Director of SiNS (Sometimes in Nova Scotia) dance. She performs regularly with Mocean Dance, SiNS, independently, and in her own work. Her choreography ranges from intimate and imagistic to large-scale collaboration with architects, visual artists, radio producers, filmmakers, and musicians. She has worked with many choreographers, including Cory Bowles, Sara Coffin, Susanne Chui, Veronique MacKenzie, Lisa Phinney Langley, Tedd Robinson, Serge Bennathan, Danièle Desnoyers, Denise Fujiwara, Sarah Chase and more. Since 2015, she has been part of the 8 DAYS project, an annual gathering of Canadian choreographers.
Jacinte is a 2016 Nova Scotia Masterworks Award recipient as a dancer with Mocean Dance in Canvas 5×5 choreographed by Tedd Robinson, as well as a 2014 Dora Award nominee for best ensemble performance. She is a two-time recipient of the Diane Moore Creation Scholarship awarded by Live Art Dance Productions, and a 2016 recipient of the Established Artist Recognition Award by the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council. Jacinte is a certified teacher of Pilates and the Franklin Method, and is a member of CADA, the CDA, and the DTRC.
