Sri Lankan-born Dinuk Wijeratne is one of Canada’s most distinctive composer/performers. His work sees him equally at home in an impressive variety of genres and contexts, following the success of critically acclaimed large-scale compositions such as Tabla Concerto, Qawwali Party, and Brazil, January 1, 1502. The common thread is a quest for cultural synthesis. Dinuk made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2004 as a conductor, composer and pianist, performing with Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. A second Carnegie appearance followed in 2009, alongside Zakir Hussain. Dinuk grew up Dubai and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music.
