Shirley de Kock Gueller is a freelance writer and editor with more than 20 years’ experience in public relations and media consulting experience in South Africa and in Canada. She has published articles on music and travel in particular in both Canada and South Africa, and has worked for the Reader’s Digest in both countries and the Encyclopaedia of Canadian Music. Shirley has particular expertise in the performing arts, having worked with many orchestras in South Africa and is strategic marketing manager of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Cape Town. She is also an event manager, having organized choir festivals for more than 2000 participants and audiences in excess of 5000.
She had written book reviews for Atlantic Books Today in Halifax and writes them weekly for The Cape Times in Cape Town and also reviews college essays for Smartthinking. She holds a BA (Hons.) in History and an international comprehensive TESOL certificate for teaching English. She is currently on the boards of the Cape Town Concert Series, the Richard Wagner Society of South Africa and the Scotia Chamber Players.
