Marianne has combined her MA in English and her passion for the arts to forge a varied and rewarding freelance career. She has twenty-five years’ experience as an editor, writer, producer, and events coordinator in the performing arts, cultural industries, and book publishing. She has worked as a theatre director and dramaturg, and as a publicist and communications director in the music and film industries (she was communications director and publicist for the East Coast Music Awards and the Atlantic Film Festival, and completed several contracts with CBC, including two as Acting Regional Manager of Communications). Marianne has also served on the Nova Scotia Arts Council as chair of the communications committee and was a founding member of Eastern Front Theatre, Alive Theatre, and the Atlantic Book Awards Society.
In 2007, Marianne chose to focus her career on book editing and finished top of her class in an advanced editing course through Ryerson University. She is currently a member of the programs committee of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, is secretary on the boards of Halifax Theatre for Young People and the Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award, and is vice-president of KiDanCo Dance Society.
Marianne wishes to share her skill as a professional wordsmith with artists and arts organizations. She’d be pleased to work with you to improve any of your written materials—grants, website copy, promotional materials, sponsorship proposals, etc.—all of which would benefit from her expertise and extensive experience in the arts.
