Barbara Richman is a cultural manager who has worked for 30 years with emerging, mid-career and senior artists, small companies, large organizations, and funding agencies. Barbara was a co-founder of Strategic Arts Management (SAM), and served as its Executive Director for its first eight years. Barbara continues to work as a SAM Consultant, and as an independent consultant for arts and heritage clients. An experienced educator, Barbara taught Arts Management at Dalhousie University for many years, and developed an approach that balances theory with practical application and tools. Known for her work in crisis management, financial rebuilding, Board governance, and strategic planning, she has particular interests in career planning, community engagement, the development of integrated arts ecologies, and the role of vision and leadership in the development of healthy, sustainable organizations.
