Currently the Executive Director of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia Jonathan Meakin has worked at the intersection of business communications, fund development, and the culture sector for over twenty years. Prior to moving to Nova Scotia in 2012, Jonathan had served as a consultant and acting director with Alberta’s Ministry of Culture for five years where he helped to develop programs and policies that supported artists, arts organizations, and publishers. During that time, he also pursued best practices in public arts funding policy through participation in initiatives such as Canadian Public Arts Funders (CPAF) network sessions devoted to the literary arts and to equity, and as a member of a national steering committee overseeing the development of Canadian Arts Data / Données sur les arts au Canada (CADAC).
Jonathan has degrees in English from the University of Alberta and the University of Ottawa, and has worked as a communications officer, university instructor, and arts administrator. He has published poems and reviews in periodicals and anthologies, and is an increasingly infrequent chap book publisher, having co-founded and co-edited (until 2005) The Olive reading and chapbook series and, in 2009, co-founded the currently inert stately/Plump Publishing, publisher of the periodical/art sheet WONK.
