John David (JD) MacCulloch is an entrepreneur, businessman and economic developer with a lifelong involvement with cultural development and the performing and visual arts. In addition to serving as a director of Strategic Arts Management (SAM) he currently serves on the board of the Kentville Art Gallery Society. In the past, he has served as chair of the Art Allocation Committee for the City of Halifax and as a member of Arts Canada, the Atlantic Film COOP and similar organizations. He has been active locally with the Crossroads Creative Collective in the Annapolis Valley. JD has experience in developing, funding and managing successful, local and international festivals and events.
JD was the co-founder and executive producer of the Baddeck International New Media Festival, a creative networking event. The Festival attracted representatives of major companies such as Disney and DreamWorks (California), TV Global (South America) and Peter Gabriel Media (UK), along with dozens of companies from other international destinations connecting them with local artists and performers in a stimulating creative environment. He also was executive director for Softworld, a successful international business technology conference which attracted over 700 delegates from 32 countries to Halifax.
JD has experience working with non-profit community organizations and voluntary boards. Fund raising and communications has been one focus of his involvement with community groups. This experience includes many years with local Chambers of Commerce as a board member and president, leading sponsorship efforts.
JD believes that the arts and the creative community stimulate economic activity and development for communities for the benefit of all.
